Now

What am I up to? Not sure if I can say, even to myself. But let’s try.

  • Recently in New Orleans again for the first time since before the pandemic.

  • Unwelcome lockdown vibes courtesy of this snowcrete that’s everywhere in DC.

  • Fuck ICE.

  • Shatter the Sun is getting closer and closer to reality, while What Elegant Stars is crowdfunding (though more slowly than I’d like).

  • Firing up a new ttrpg (Urban Shadows) this month.

  • AlannaCon is still a rising feeling in the air.

  • The Traitors UK is continuing to deliver.

  • Nightreign consumes my fill-an-hour gaming.

  • Enjoying the new Robyn tunes.

  • My interest has gotten piqued by indie perfume in the last two weeks—it started because I finally bit the bullet on the Imaginary Authors short story collection because it was on sale. I’ve avoided most scents for a long time so it’s fun to discover what I’m into.

  • I have a new short story out: “A Reckoning of Queens” with Swords and Sorcery Magazine. The timing is fun because I’ve been living and breathing sword and sorcery while working on Shatter the Sun.

  • DC awarded me an artist grant for next year!

  • My Nobilis game is wrapping up and my D&D game is about to go on hiatus, so I will be briefly gameless.

  • Re-reading Tamora Pierce books after a lovely panel at Can*Con—keep an eye out for AlannaCon, it feels inevitable.

  • Digging back into Age of Wonders 4 before the Nightreign DLC comes out.

  • Listening to a lot of Girl Ultra.

  • Got back from Burning Man a couple weeks ago—I was expecting to just sort of tolerate the experience but I had an incredible time.

  • Just finished design for Baffling Year Four, about to dig into We’re Here 2024.

  • Working on promo for Christopher Caldwell’s collection Call and Response.

  • Sitting on my laurels: a story I wrote just won the Desert Rat Fiction Prize!

  • Rewatching Orphan Black on the treadmill; two episodes into the latest season of Taskmaster.

  • Enjoying my disaster cleric in a pal’s D&D game; running a deranged game of Nobilis.

  • Just finished reading An Academy for Liars by Alexis Henderson and it’s my fav read of 2025.

  • Playing Nightreign to relax, which yes, may be counterintuitive.

  • Getting Neon Hemlock finances figured out.
